US President Donald Trump announced via social media that a 10-day ceasefire agreement had been reached between Israel and Lebanon. The ceasefire will begin on Thursday at 5:00 PM and aims to temporarily halt the conflicts that have been ongoing between the parties for about a month. This development came after direct Israel-Lebanon diplomatic talks hosted by the US in Washington for the first time in over 40 years. Trump also invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to new talks to be held at the White House.
The clashes that began in early March have resulted in over 2,000 deaths in Lebanon and displaced about 20% of the population. Israel announced that it will continue to occupy the "buffer zone" it established on Lebanon's southern border during the ceasefire period. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Lebanon is an integral part of the comprehensive ceasefire and plays an important role in regional peace.
While the future of negotiations between the US and Iran remains uncertain, this ceasefire is considered a positive step towards lasting peace.
