Haaretz reported that Google formed a new team of senior executives and hardware engineers for its artificial intelligence chip work in Israel. The team is developing a chip that will run AI tasks directly on devices instead of cloud servers.
The technology is intended to speed up processing and reduce the need for cloud resources. Google began its chip development work in Israel under Google Cloud in 2021 and employs around 700 engineers at its facilities in Tel Aviv and Haifa.
Executives to lead the chip work
The company is developing chips and computing infrastructure through these teams. Google hired Ido Bukspan, a former NVIDIA Israel executive and the chief executive of Israel-based data infrastructure and technology company Pliops, to work on its data network chips.
Kaminitz, an executive at Israeli technology company Hailo, announced on social media that he had taken charge of the initiative. Some Hailo engineers also joined Google’s new team.
Google declined to comment on the matter.
