Iraq and Senegal face off in the third and final group match of Group A at the 2026 World Cup on Friday, June 26. The Iraqi national team, nicknamed the "Lions," is seeking a must-win victory to keep their chances of advancing from the group alive.
The match at BM&O Field will kick off at 22:00 Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Qatar time, and at 23:00 UAE time. It will be broadcast live on beIN 4K HDR and beIN Max 1.
Both Teams Seek Victory
Iraq lost 4-1 to Norway and 3-0 to France in their first two matches, scoring only one goal. Senegal also lost to France and Norway by the same scores, leaving them with zero points in the group. Senegal must win this match to have a chance of advancing as one of the best third-placed teams. Iraq's chances of advancing from third place are slim but mathematically still alive.
Senegal, the highest-ranked team from Africa, was considered among the favorites before the tournament, but their performance in the first two matches fell short of expectations. The team, led by coach Pape Thiaw, has conceded three goals in three of their last four matches and only managed a goalless draw against Saudi Arabia. Iraq coach Graham Arnold aims to exploit Senegal's defensive weakness.
Key Absences
Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy suffered a knee injury in the match against Norway and has been ruled out of the tournament. In Iraq, the status of Aymen Hüseyin remains uncertain. Hüseyin was injured in the previous match and had to leave the game. The absence of the striker would be a major blow for Iraq, who are at the bottom of the group.
Probable Lineups
Iraq is expected to field the following starting XI: Basil; Ali, Tahsin, Hashim, Dowski; Ismail, Amari, Iqbal; Qasim, Hammadi, Bayesh.
Senegal's probable starting XI is as follows: Diaw; Diatta, Koulibaly, Niakhate, Diouf; Camara, Gueye, Gueye; Sarr, Jackson, Mane.
