Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi received Turkey's Ambassador to Baghdad Anıl Bora İnan and a group of Turkish businesspeople within the framework of the Turkish Business Council in Baghdad on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's press office, al-Zaydi ordered the facilitation of visa procedures for Turkish businesspeople and the provision of other facilities to maintain investment activity in Iraq.
During the meeting, al-Zaydi highlighted the importance of economic and investment relations between Iraq and Turkey, noting that there are many investment opportunities for Turkish companies. These opportunities include the Development Road project, hospital and airport management, and energy and water management projects.
Ambassador İnan, for his part, reaffirmed the Turkish government's determination to develop bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in all fields. Turkish businesspeople also expressed their readiness to start investment projects in Iraq.
In October 2025, Halit Acar, Chairman of the Turkish-Iraqi Business Council, said that the Development Road project would give great momentum to trade between the two countries.
The Development Road is a road and railway project stretching 1,200 kilometers within Iraq, connecting Iraq to Turkey and its ports, aiming to transport goods between Europe and the Gulf countries. This project stands out as one of the most important commercial link routes between the Persian Gulf and Europe.
