Hundreds of protesters gathered at Odenplan Square in Stockholm, Sweden, to condemn Israeli attacks on Palestinian territories. The crowd called for an end to the ongoing violence in Gaza and the West Bank and for an immediate ceasefire.
Participants carried Palestinian flags and held banners reading "Massacre in Palestine," "Genocide in Gaza," and "Urgent and Permanent Ceasefire in Gaza."
Israeli Knesset member Ofir Kasif, who joined the event via video link, harshly criticized the Israeli government's policies. "Israel's treatment of the Palestinian people bears similarities to historical fascist regimes," Kasif said.
Kasif continued by recalling the warning of 'moral collapse' issued years ago by Israeli thinker Prof. Yeshayahu Leibowitz. "Leibowitz stressed that the state's elevation of military power to the supreme value would lead to moral collapse and warned of the emergence of a mindset he termed 'Jewish Nazism,'" Kasif said. "The large-scale destruction we witness today, the dispossession of Palestinians, and the massacres they endure sadly confirm the accuracy of this warning," he added.
More than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 8, 2023. Over 90 percent of the civilian infrastructure in the area has been destroyed.
