The US and Iran announced they have reached an agreement to end the war against Iran and to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The announcement marked a notable development in a conflict that has lasted for months and driven global energy prices higher.
US President Donald Trump declared the agreement finalized on Truth Social, stating that world vessels should resume navigation. He also called for the resumption of oil flows.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi indicated that a broader agreement could take shape under the framework of easing sanctions during a 60-day ceasefire. This statement showed that the process aims not only to halt the conflict but also to mitigate economic impacts.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced that the agreement is expected to be signed on Friday in Switzerland. Sharif congratulated Washington and Tehran for their diplomatic efforts and thanked Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey for their contributions.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation for both parties’ willingness to resolve disputes through negotiation and peaceful means. State Minister Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Hulaifi also expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for broader efforts to strengthen regional stability.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed the agreement, describing it as an important development for peace and tranquility in the region. Erdoğan wrote that Turkey will continue to support lasting solutions based on diplomacy and international law.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the agreement a critical step toward peacefully resolving the conflict. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the need to restore free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and stated they could support mine-clearing operations if necessary.
French President Emmanuel Macron also called for the urgent and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Macron stressed that resuming maritime traffic without restrictions is indispensable for regional stability and the global economy.
Macron added that they would support Lebanese authorities’ efforts to reestablish state sovereignty. Thus, the impact of the agreement extends beyond the Iran-US axis, bringing Eastern Mediterranean and Gulf security issues to the forefront.
