Days before Israel’s election, Trump says he trusts no one in politics
With 11 days to go before Israel’s election, U.S. President Donald Trump said he does not trust anyone in politics when asked whether he trusts Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces a tight race on Oct. 27.
Asked on the U.S. channel Newsmax whether he trusts Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. President Donald Trump said: “I don’t trust anybody, honestly. In the world of politics I don’t trust anybody.”
Trump’s remarks came ahead of Israel’s Oct. 27 election. Polls suggest Netanyahu’s governing bloc may fall short of the 61 seats needed for a Knesset majority.
Support for Netanyahu unclear
Asked whether he would get involved in the election, Trump said Israeli officials “would like” him to, but did not say whether he would back Netanyahu. He has so far avoided an explicit endorsement.
Trump did, however, describe his relationship with Netanyahu as “very good” and called the two countries’ military partnership against Iran “very successful,” without pointing to any specific disagreement.
