After the two major earthquakes that hit Venezuela, the toll is increasingly heavy. National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced in his latest statement that the death toll has risen to 3,685. The number of injured was recorded as 16,740.
In a message published on the US-based social media platform X, Rodriguez stated that aid has reached 86,794 families in the disaster area. He reported that rescue teams pulled 6,462 people alive from the rubble, 856 buildings were damaged, and 190 buildings completely collapsed.
Officials distributed 9,603 metric tons of food and more than 8.32 million liters of water to the earthquake victims. Additionally, medical intervention was provided to 25,970 injured people. The aid operations involved 29,567 personnel, 28,362 volunteers, and 4,388 international rescue workers.
87 temporary camps were set up for the displaced. Since the first earthquakes, 1,076 aftershocks have been recorded in the region.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) had announced that on June 24, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela just 39 seconds apart. The destruction triggered a massive humanitarian aid mobilization at national and international levels.
