Attacks Continue Despite Ceasefire Agreements
The Israeli army launched intense airstrikes on Lebanon on March 2 and occupied many towns in the south. The Lebanese government announced that over one million people have been displaced during this period.
Despite the ceasefire that came into effect on April 17 and was extended for 45 days as of May 17, attacks continue. On April 24, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a three-week extension of the temporary ceasefire.
Following the third round of talks mediated by the U.S. on May 14-15, it was decided to extend the ceasefire by 45 days. However, the recent Israeli attacks indicate that tensions on the ground persist.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 3,666 people have died in Israeli attacks since March 2. On June 3, the U.S. State Department announced an agreement on a broad ceasefire, conditional on Israel and Lebanon fully stopping Hezbollah's attacks and withdrawing all forces south of the Litani River. Hezbollah, however, declared it rejects this conditional ceasefire.
