European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the images of migrants coming from the Ceuta region on Spain's border with Morocco were unacceptable. Von der Leyen stressed that nobody would be allowed to enter the EU without complying with the European Union's rules.
"Dangerous crossings must be stopped immediately, human trafficking networks must be dismantled, and returns must be carried out swiftly in line with our rules," von der Leyen said, announcing that concrete steps would be taken on this matter.
The European Commission President announced that additional operational support, including Frontex, would be provided to Spain. She also said she believed that close cooperation with Morocco would yield concrete results.
