Saudi Arabia has launched a new visa category for truck drivers transporting goods by road from Türkiye.
For many years, road transport from Türkiye to Saudi Arabia was not possible due to conflicts in Iraq and Syria. Following developments in the region, the opening of transit routes has enabled companies to regain access to Saudi Arabia.
Türkiye held high-level talks to enable companies to transport goods to this country, discussing transport-related issues including driver visas. As a result of these contacts, Saudi Arabia took a new step regarding driver visas.
Under the new visa category for professional drivers engaged in road transport, the multiple-entry road transport visa will cost 300 Saudi riyals (approximately 3,800 Turkish lira). The single-entry transit transport visa will be issued free of charge.
The permitted stay in the country for transit transport has been set at four days. However, Türkiye is calling for this period to be extended to 15 days, citing reasons such as Saudi Arabia's vast geography and the need for vehicle maintenance and repair.
Reducing the fees paid to intermediary companies for visa procurement is also noted as another prominent demand of Türkiye.
