At the GLOBSEC Forum held in Prague, European leaders evaluated the role of the US within NATO and especially the effects of the sudden decisions of the Donald Trump administration on the alliance. The cancellation of the US military deployment to Poland and then Trump's reversal of this decision created a political and psychological shock in Poland. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski described the events as 'a communication mix-up' and considered the damage to relations only a temporary disruption. However, this situation led to questioning the trust in the US in Europe. Czech President Petr Pavel pointed out the lack of coordination with NATO regarding changes in the number and deployment of US troops. Germany argues that after the US focuses on the Asia-Pacific region, Europe needs to strengthen its own defense capabilities. Meanwhile, some countries prefer rapid US arms purchases against the Russian threat. Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson warned that prioritizing Europe in defense procurement may not meet the needs of soldiers in combat. Romania continues defense cooperation with the US while emphasizing the development of its local defense industry. These issues are expected to be among the top agenda items at the NATO summit to be held in Ankara in July.
