Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s minister of foreign affairs, international cooperation and Egyptian expatriates, in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Saturday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, hosted by Baghdad on Oct. 17-18. Fidan traveled to Iraq to attend the session.

Türkiye hands chairmanship to Iraq
The session, held under the theme “Dialogue and Solidarity as Two Essential Pillars for Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development,” marks the handover of the council’s chairmanship from Türkiye to Iraq. Türkiye took the role in June 2025 after hosting the 51st session in Istanbul.
The Palestinian cause, the war in Gaza and regional tensions are expected to top the agenda, along with shared political, economic and humanitarian issues. The session’s spokesperson had said 53 of the OIC’s 57 member states confirmed their attendance.
It is the first time Iraq has hosted the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers since 1981.
