Iran’s former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Mohsen Rezai made statements regarding the status of the Strait of Hormuz. Rezai said the strait lies within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman and has no connection to the US.
“No country accepts the US unilaterally intervening in the fate of the Strait of Hormuz,” Rezai said, adding, “Even European countries do not want to allow this.”
Rezai noted that the Strait of Hormuz is different from other straits in the world: “The Strait of Hormuz is the entrance to a gulf. It is different from straits between oceans and seas.” The former commander stated, “The US wants to enter the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz. That is why we view the US administration with suspicion, because Iran is at war with the US.”
