Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned Ukraine's drone attack on an Iranian-flagged commercial ship in the Caspian Sea. Zakharova said the attack was an act of aggression that clearly violates international law.
Speaking at a press conference in Moscow, Zakharova said the ship targeted in the attack was carrying civilian cargo from Russia's Astrakhan port. "Such criminal acts demonstrate that the Kiev administration is attempting to broaden the geography of its terrorist activities," the Russian official stated.
Zakharova stressed that the attack posed a threat to the security of the Caspian region countries and underlined that the Caspian Sea must remain a zone of peace and cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced on July 25 that it had carried out a drone attack on a Russian-owned oil platform in the Caspian Sea, along with ships allegedly used to transport military cargo between Iran and Russia.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also said in a statement on social media platform X that the attack on the Iranian vessel would not go unanswered.
