Greece’s Chief of Staff Dimitrios Houpis made an official visit to Israel, bringing the future of military cooperation between the two countries into focus. On Wednesday, Houpis met with Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to discuss strengthening cooperation over the long term.
The statement issued after the meeting described the military relationship between Israel and Greece as strategically important and said long-term cooperation would be further developed.
Athens emphasizes strategic cooperation
Greece’s General Staff said Houpis’s visit demonstrated the strategic value of the two countries’ long-standing military ties. It also said the visit showed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and regional stability.
Joint exercises and defense systems
Defense cooperation between Israel and Greece includes joint exercises and air training programs in Greece. The two sides are also working on counter-drone systems and cybersecurity.
Defense ministers from the two countries agreed on cooperation in these areas in January 2026. The parties have a trilateral military action plan for 2026 that also includes the Greek Cypriot administration.
The plan envisions joint exercises and Greece acquiring weapons from Israel, including PULS missile systems.
