Greece's Efsin newspaper claimed that a military test, in which the Israeli Ministry of Defense also took part, caused environmental damage at Lavrio Port near Athens. The newspaper alleged that the tests, which it said took place between March 16 and 20, used TNT and radioactive materials.
According to the newspaper, the test was conducted under the 'UnderSec' underwater security research program funded by the European Union. Launched in 2023, the program aims to develop maritime technologies at the ports of Lavrio in Greece, Valencia in Spain, and Ravenna in Italy.
According to the Efsin newspaper's report, the Israeli Ministry of Defense, the Israeli military industry company Rafael, and Tel Aviv University participated in the test. The newspaper stated that Rafael, which works closely with the Germans, was also involved in the process.
"The tests lasted five days; no information was given to the local population, the necessary environmental permits were not obtained, and the port's biodiversity was put at serious risk."
The newspaper wrote that the local residents were not informed and the necessary environmental approvals were not obtained, arguing that this activity with Israeli participation threatened the marine ecosystem.
