Hamas described the attack on a café at a fishing port west of Gaza City as an attempt to disrupt ceasefire talks and the implementation of the Gaza agreement.
Hamas said that an Israeli drone struck the crowded café on Tuesday, killing six Palestinians, including a child, and injuring 14 others.
Hamas blames Netanyahu
In a statement, Hamas said the attack took place immediately after the latest talks in Cairo and the ceasefire efforts being pursued by the mediators. The movement argued that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was deliberately seeking to undermine the negotiations.
According to the statement, the attack undermined regional and international efforts to advance the implementation of the Gaza plan and the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement. Hamas described it as an open challenge to efforts to de-escalate tensions and establish security and stability in the region.
Call for implementation of the agreement
Hamas and the Palestinian factions said they had acted seriously and responsibly in contacts with U.S. representative Jared Kushner and the mediators during the latest talks to implement the agreement.
Hamas called on the U.S. administration, the mediators and the Israeli government, as guarantors of the agreement, to compel the parties to implement the agreed provisions and stop the attacks. The movement also called for Netanyahu to be prevented from blocking implementation of the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement.
Sequence of disarmament and withdrawal
Netanyahu had previously rejected the 15-point plan prepared for Gaza, making Hamas’s disarmament a condition for the withdrawal of Israeli forces. The road map published on July 31, however, envisages Hamas’s disarmament taking place alongside Israel’s gradual and simultaneous withdrawal from Gaza.
While the Israeli prime minister wants Hamas to be completely disarmed before the withdrawal begins, Hamas argues that disarmament and Israel’s orderly, gradual withdrawal from Gaza must take place simultaneously.
Israeli army’s statement on the target
The Israeli army claimed that Hamas leaders planning attacks against Israeli forces in the Shati area west of Gaza City were targeted in the strike. However, the army provided no evidence identifying the people who were targeted.
Mediators continue their efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since October 10, 2025. According to the latest data from the Gaza Health Ministry, 1,266 Palestinians have died and 4,200 people have been injured as a result of ceasefire violations.
