Iran is planning to hold a burial ceremony for Ali Khamenei in Mashhad on July 9. The multi-city official mourning program across the country marks the completion of a process that had been postponed since March.
According to the official schedule, ceremonies will begin on July 4 in the capital Tehran. This will be followed by a memorial event in the city of Qom on July 7, and the process will conclude with the burial in Mashhad, Khamenei's birthplace, on July 9.
State television announced the burial date with the program released over the weekend. Details of the process were also included in the third official statement from the High Commemoration Committee established for Khamenei.
The committee reported that preparations are ongoing in Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad, calling on the public to participate widely in the ceremonies. Authorities aim for the program to be conducted in a grand and dignified manner, both officially and publicly.
