Iran accused the new British government of providing military bases and facilities for US military attacks on Iran. In a statement, Iran's Foreign Ministry said the move clearly violates the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
The ministry stated that the UK's decision constitutes "complicity in the crime of aggression." The statement included the following:
The new British administration's decision to provide military bases and facilities for the US's illegal military attacks on the Iranian nation clearly violates the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law. This action falls under the definition of aggression pursuant to Article 3(f) of UN General Assembly Resolution 3314.
Iran stressed that the UK is aware that the US attacks began and continue with the participation of the occupying and genocidal Israeli regime. The ministry reiterated its warning that any form of participation and cooperation would mean complicity in war crimes:
Any participation and cooperation in the preparation and execution of these illegal attacks will mean complicity in the crime of aggression and war crimes.
Iran's Foreign Ministry noted that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a sovereign state, the UK has sided with the aggressors instead of fulfilling its obligation to condemn military aggression. The statement said this decision discredits the UK's claims of support for the rule of law and human rights.
Iran also referred to the UK's historical record of intervention, recalling the 1953 coup, support for Saddam Hussein during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war, illegal sanctions related to the nuclear issue, and its role in the so-called snapback mechanism.
Finally, Iran emphasized its determination to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that any party participating in any way in a military attack on Iran will be responsible for the consequences and repercussions of its decision.
