Iran's religious leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued a harsh message to the US, saying Washington is the 'great Satan.' Khamenei stated that the US violation of the memorandum of understanding proved that President Donald Trump's signature carries no value.
Khamenei stressed that the US is the 'enemy' and is trying to fuel wars. 'Our people and the resistance front will teach it lessons it will never forget,' the Iranian leader said, adding, 'The great Satan's breach of promise is another definitive proof of America's deceitfulness and untrustworthiness.'
This was Khamenei's first public message since his father, former leader Ali Khamenei, was killed in the US-Israeli attacks that began in late February. He also stressed the importance of internal unity. 'Internal unity is the guarantee of Iran's honor and independence, especially in the face of the criminal and deceitful American enemy,' he said.
The Iranian leader warned, 'The enemy must not receive any sign of weakness from us; as long as we maintain our unity and solidarity, it will be forced to retreat and suffer defeat.' Khamenei added, 'Bullying, totalitarian tendencies, and brutality are inseparable parts of the American approach,' and said the courage of his fighters and the efforts of the people of southern Iran are examples of the lessons to be taught to the enemy.
Khamenei's remarks came amid a series of US airstrikes on Iran. Tehran is responding with attacks it claims have targeted US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan.
