Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced a new claim regarding the US military presence in the Middle East. The group’s spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi alleged that 11 aircraft and 17 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) stationed at US bases in the region had been destroyed over the past 15 days.
In a statement to the Tasnim news agency, Mohebbi shared details of the destroyed aircraft. According to the spokesperson, the items hit included eight refueling tankers, one F-15 fighter jet, one C-17 transport aircraft, one P-8 reconnaissance plane, and 17 UAVs. He said these operations caused damage to US forces.
The Iranian official did not provide any details about the locations of the bases in question or the exact timing of the attacks. The US has not yet issued an official statement regarding these claims.
The US has reportedly carried out airstrikes inside Iran recently, and the Tehran administration has retaliated with missile and drone strikes against military targets in multiple countries in the region it claims are linked to Washington.
This escalation is taking place despite a pact signed by both sides last June that envisioned a ceasefire and negotiations toward a broader agreement. U.S. President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire over on July 8 following attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington claims Iran is behind those attacks.
While the US demands that Iran halt attacks on ships and guarantee free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the Tehran administration insists on subjecting traffic in this critical waterway to a regulatory mechanism. The dispute also raises concerns about possible disruptions to oil and natural gas exports from the region.
