Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service announced that an officer was martyred in operations against the ISIS terrorist organization in Kirkuk. In a statement on Sunday, the head of the service, Karim al-Tamimi, said, 'I announce to the Iraqi people the martyrdom of the martyred fighter First Lieutenant Hasan Hudayr Zuğayr.'
Al-Tamimi stated that the officer attained martyrdom while defending his dear homeland during clashes with ISIS terrorist gangs in Kirkuk. The statement, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), noted that the officer's martyrdom was met with great sorrow.
A day before the incident, on Saturday, the Security Media Cell, affiliated with the Joint Operations Command, announced that airstrikes had been carried out on ISIS hideouts and shelters in the Dibs district of Kirkuk.
Although Iraq declared victory over ISIS on December 10, 2017, by then-Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, it is noted that the organization occasionally carries out attacks in some provinces in the north, west, and east, while the government conducts security operations to clear out the remnants of the group.
