The Iraqi Federal Integrity Commission expanded its anti-corruption campaign with a series of raids in Baghdad that began at night and lasted until morning. Dozens of luxury vehicles and high-value properties were seized during the operation.
Seizures at Bab Baghdad project
The Bab Baghdad residential project was at the center of the raids. Integrity Commission officials confiscated around 60 luxury vehicles there. The seized vehicles included 40 Nissan Patrol SUVs, 13 Lexus, 7 Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUVs, and several Chevrolet Tahoes.
Footage shared on social media showed special cranes loading the luxury vehicles onto transport trucks, while security forces sealed the entrances to some apartments in the residential complex.
Apartments belonging to MPs
In addition to the vehicles, numerous luxury apartments were also seized. Although the exact number has not yet been disclosed, the seized apartments reportedly belong mostly to current and former members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
Campaign expands
The operation was carried out as part of a nationwide anti-corruption campaign that has intensified in recent weeks. The campaign has targeted MPs, government officials, and political figures; billions of Iraqi dinars, US dollars, and large quantities of gold have been seized.
Iraqi security institutions and judicial authorities have not yet made an official statement on the recent raids.
Deputy Oil Minister arrested
These operations came shortly after the arrest of Deputy Oil Minister for Refinery Affairs Adnan Jumaili in one of the country's most high-profile corruption investigations.
