The IRGC said it hit the engine room and propulsion system of the “giant” LPG carrier Sun Shine as it tried to cross via an “illegal” route in the southern part of the strait, setting it on fire.

“Actions against violating vessels will not be limited to the Strait of Hormuz,” the Guards said, adding that companies cooperating with the United States would be sanctioned and their vessels targeted. They blamed “the aggressive US army” for the rising tensions at sea.

The strait has been effectively closed since the war began on Feb. 28, with more than a dozen incidents recorded in the week to Oct. 5.
