Jordan's King Abdullah announced that he welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.
In a post on his account on the social media platform X, King Abdullah said, "We welcome the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran."
The King added, "We hope that both sides will reach a lasting agreement that will enhance security in the region and guarantee respect for the sovereignty of states."
Mediating Countries' Efforts Appreciated
The Jordanian leader also stated that they appreciated the extraordinary mediation efforts of Pakistan, Qatar, and other friendly and brotherly countries in reaching this stage.
The "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding," signed online by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, paves the way to end the war launched by Washington and Tel Aviv against Iran on February 28.
According to the official statement from the Pakistani mediator, the memorandum has entered into force. Accordingly, Iran will begin reopening maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and in return, the US will begin lifting the naval blockade imposed on Tehran since April.
Talks in Switzerland Postponed
Switzerland had planned to host a meeting on Friday between representatives of the US, Iran, and other relevant parties to initiate negotiations on Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions. However, the Swiss Foreign Ministry announced the cancellation of the planned meetings at the Burgenstock ski resort.
The White House, in a statement on Thursday, confirmed that US Vice President JD Vance's visit to Switzerland had been postponed, but preparations for the planned technical negotiations with Iran were continuing.
