Former Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid revealed that a plan Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tried to implement early in the war against Iran was blocked by Turkey.
Lapid said Netanyahu had a plan to arm Kurdish groups in western Iran and activate them against the Tehran administration, but did not account for Turkey's potential reaction and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's influence in Washington.
"The Prime Minister suppresses all information he doesn't like," Lapid said, adding, "But Erdoğan disciplined him."
Lapid highlighted the effectiveness Turkey has recently gained in the diplomatic arena. He argued that President Erdoğan's power on the ground and his diplomatic weight in Washington were underestimated by Israel.
It was suggested that the plan to arm Iranian Kurds was thwarted as a result of President Erdoğan persuading US President Donald Trump.
Last week, Trump praised Erdoğan in a statement from the Oval Office, saying, "He is a very good friend of mine and we worked very well together. I like him. He is a great leader and a very strong person."
