Palestinian minister al-Aawar released on bail after Israeli police detention
Palestinian Minister Ashraf al-Aawar was released on bail within hours after Israeli police detained him at his home. The reason for the detention was not disclosed, while the entry ban imposed on al-Aawar in the West Bank had previously been extended.
Israeli police detained Palestinian Minister Ashraf al-Aawar at his home. An official from the minister's office said no reason was given during the procedure.
Al-Aawar was released on bail a few hours later. The Jerusalem Governorate also announced that the minister had been released on bail.
Israeli authorities did not explain why al-Aawar was detained.
West Bank entry ban extended
Israeli authorities banned al-Aawar from entering the West Bank last year. The decision was later extended.
Restrictions on Palestinians in East Jerusalem
The Israeli government has increased restrictions on sporting, social, political and economic activities involving Palestinians in East Jerusalem since October 2023.
The headquarters of the Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs is located in the town of al-Ram in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian government holds its meetings in Ramallah.
