Odenplan Square in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, hosted a demonstration in support of Palestine and Lebanon organized at the call of numerous civil society organizations. Hundreds of people took part in the protest, where airstrikes carried out by the Israeli army on Gaza, the occupied West Bank and Lebanon were denounced.
As demonstrators reacted to the attacks described as ceasefire violations, they carried banners reading "Children are being killed in Gaza," "Schools and hospitals are being bombed," "Stop the attacks on Lebanon" and "End the food shortage."
Call from Sweden to halt arms sales
Participants called for Israel to immediately end its attacks on Gaza. They also urged the Swedish government to halt arms sales to Israel.
Swedish activist Hakan Larsson, who attended the demonstration, said he was there to support the Palestinian people. Larsson argued that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza was deepening and that children were facing hunger.
Stating that political actors were failing to fulfill their responsibilities, Larsson said people needed to come together and that the protests should continue. Larsson said the demonstrations should continue until Israel ends its attacks and peace is established in the Middle East.
Assessment of Gaza's health and education infrastructure
Larsson said Gaza's health and education infrastructure had suffered severe damage and drew attention to the condition of hospitals and schools. He claimed that children were going hungry and that people were facing difficulties accessing medical supplies.
Larsson argued that Israel was preventing humanitarian aid from reaching Gaza and reiterated his call for an end to the attacks. Describing the situation in Gaza as "very critical," Larsson characterized what was happening as genocide.
Referring also to developments in Lebanon, Larsson said villages were being bombed and people were losing their lives. He said international efforts to stop Israel needed to be intensified.
