Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman held phone calls with the foreign ministers of four countries to discuss regional developments and cooperation opportunities. Among those he spoke with were Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
According to a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks focused on bilateral cooperation relations between Qatar and the respective countries and ways to enhance them.
The diplomatic contacts assessed efforts to strengthen security and stability in the region, particularly after the memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran. The parties also discussed various issues of common interest.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28, 2026, and the fighting continued until a ceasefire was declared on April 8, 2026. The memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran in June 2026 calls for a halt to the clashes, the lifting of the US naval blockade, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The two countries are still conducting rounds of negotiations on the implementation of the agreement. The latest round took place in the capital Doha on June 30. While the Iranian delegation held trilateral meetings with Qatari and Pakistani mediators, US special representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff also met with Qatari officials in Doha.
