As clashes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen escalated, emergency warnings were issued Tuesday for the western cities of Jeddah, Mecca and Taif. The warnings were issued without providing details about the nature of the danger.
Messages sent through the National Emergency Early Warning Platform urged residents to remain calm, move to the nearest safe area and follow official safety instructions.
Saudi Civil Defense advised people, whenever possible, to take shelter inside buildings or in interior rooms away from windows and remain there until the danger had passed. Residents were urged to stay away from open areas, windows, balconies and rooftops, while those outside were told to enter the nearest building or move behind a sturdy barrier.
Drivers who received the warning were asked to stop their vehicles away from bridges and tall buildings. Residents were also told to avoid crowds and dangerous areas and follow instructions issued through official channels.
The Houthis have carried out missile and drone attacks on Saudi cities and infrastructure in recent days. Saudi forces have responded with attacks on Houthi positions in Yemen.
