Odenplan Square in Sweden hosted a demonstration protesting attacks on Gaza and Lebanon. Organized at the call of numerous civil society organizations, the action saw participants demand an end to the attacks.
Demonstrators chanted slogans against Israel and carried banners stating that civilians were being killed and schools and hospitals bombed in Gaza. The placards called for an end to the attacks on Lebanon, an end to the food shortage and a halt to the war.
Arnholt criticizes political parties
Swedish activist Jonas Arnholt, who supported the action, argued that the humanitarian catastrophe had resulted from Israel being allowed to continue its attacks. Arnholt also condemned Israel’s attacks in Gaza and its raids in the West Bank.
Describing Israel as a “terrorist state,” Arnholt said anti-Zionist politicians should take office in countries.
Commenting on the elections to be held in Sweden on September 13, Arnholt argued that the parties in parliament had failed to take a clear position against Israel’s policies. Arnholt maintained that the existing parties, including the Left Party, had not distanced themselves from what he described as Israel’s war policy, and said some parties pointed to Iran over responsibility for the war.
