Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held separate meetings on Tuesday with Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas of the Greek Cypriot administration. The talks focused on advancing defense, security and military cooperation.
Military partnership with Greece
During his meeting with Nikos Dendias, Sisi said cooperation between Egypt and Greece should continue across various areas. The Egyptian president called in particular for stronger cooperation in the defense and military fields.
Sisi also addressed the trilateral mechanism, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among Egypt, Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration. He said the mechanism was a successful model of regional cooperation aimed at promoting peace, stability and shared prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Dendias highlighted the importance of maintaining coordination between Egypt and Greece in the fight against terrorism and irregular migration.
Security ties with the Greek Cypriot administration
During his separate meeting with Vasilis Palmas, Sisi discussed bilateral relations and said the existing strategic partnership should be deepened. Sisi called for cooperation to be expanded, particularly in the security and military fields.
Palmas said he appreciated Egypt’s role in reducing tensions in the region and establishing peace and stability.
The two meetings were held after the latest summit of the trilateral cooperation mechanism among Egypt, Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration, which took place in the Egyptian city of El Alamein approximately two weeks earlier.
