Anojan Sivarasa, a 24-year-old Sri Lankan migrant worker, has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia over a Facebook comment insulting the Prophet Muhammad, the BBC reported. He had quickly deleted the comment and posted an apology video. Initially sentenced to five years in prison and a 3 million riyal fine by the Al-Ahsa Criminal Court, he was sentenced to death after an appeals court on Sept. 17 accepted prosecutors’ request to try him under Sharia law. Sri Lanka’s government says it is seeking a pardon.
