UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric presented data on refugee children’s access to education at the daily press briefing held Friday at UN headquarters in New York.
Dujarric cited the annual education report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which found that nearly 6 million school-age refugee children worldwide were out of school in 2025.

Forty-four percent of 13.1 million children lacked access to education
Forty-four percent of the 13.1 million school-age refugee children worldwide did not attend school in 2025. Dujarrik warned that funding cuts could push millions more children out of education and undermine progress made in refugee education over the years.
Higher education enrollment rose to 11%
According to the report, the higher education enrollment rate among refugees rose to 11% in 2025. More than 450,000 refugees enrolled in higher education institutions for the first time that year.

The higher education enrollment rate among refugees had been recorded at approximately 9% in 2024.
