The Syrian General Directorate of Border Crossings and Customs has begun site work for the Qamishli–Nusaybin Border Crossing, which is planned to become one of the border crossings between Syria and Türkiye. Mazin Alloush, the director of the administration’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation, said excavation, grading and technical preparation work was being carried out in the area.
The preparations are part of a comprehensive project developed to renovate and improve the crossing’s infrastructure. The project is planned to be implemented in stages in line with its technical and operational programs.

Cargo and transit areas to be arranged in the first phase
The first phase aims to arrange import and export cargo areas as well as transit transport areas. The project also includes plans for a border-crossing administration building, passenger halls, customs units and staff housing.

The basic infrastructure required to operate the crossing will also be established on an area of approximately 558,000 square meters. Alloush said the Qamishli–Nusaybin Border Crossing would be the seventh border crossing between Syria and Türkiye.
Project aims to boost trade and shorten crossing times
The project aims to increase trade volume, support the economy and develop transit transport through Syria. The new crossing is expected to reduce congestion at existing border crossings and shorten distances and crossing times for citizens and transport operators.

The Qamishli–Nusaybin Border Crossing was closed in 2012 following the outbreak of the civil war in Syria.
