An Arabic and values education program attended by Turkish students in Damascus concluded with a certificate ceremony.
Muhammad Musa Budak, education adviser at Türkiye’s Embassy in Damascus, also attended the ceremony at the Sheikh Hasan Bedreddin al-Hasani Education Center. The six-week program was carried out through cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Türkiye’s General Directorate of Religious Education and Syria’s Ministry of Awqaf.
Language education supported by daily life
Muhammad Musa Budak said the program not only improved the students’ Arabic proficiency but also included social and cultural activities. Budak said the students had the opportunity to learn Arabic by using it in everyday life and described the program as language education “rooted in real life.”
Noting that Damascus has a long-established tradition of teaching Arabic, Budak said Syria had been a center of scholarship and culture for centuries. Budak also said that, after the country’s approximately 15-year war, Arabic education activities in Syria had begun to revive and that demand in this area was expected to increase over time.
Students describe what they gained
Mustafa Tokat, a third-year student at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at Istanbul Medeniyet University, said the six-week Arabic education program he attended in Damascus exceeded his expectations. Tokat said combining theoretical lessons with practical work strengthened his learning and thanked those who prepared and contributed to the program.
Muhammad Hasan Bilgili, a student at Kocaeli University’s Faculty of Theology, said he had made significant progress during the program, particularly in speaking and vocabulary.
Bilgili said they visited different cities and historical sites in Syria during the education program. He noted that these visits contributed to their Arabic learning while also allowing them to gain a closer understanding of Syria’s history and cultural heritage.
