Syrian Education Minister Muhammed Abdurrahman Türko and Türkiye's Ambassador to Damascus, Nuh Yılmaz, met in Damascus to discuss steps that could be taken to expand cooperation between the two countries in vocational and technical education.
The meeting, held at the Syrian Ministry of Education building on Sunday, addressed the sharing of educational experience and the expansion of areas for joint work. The development of the education system and improving services so they can better meet students' needs were also among the topics discussed.
Türko emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation with Türkiye in the field of education. Yılmaz invited the Syrian education minister to Türkiye and proposed that he examine Türkiye's educational experience on site. The visit is intended to increase the sharing of experience and expand areas of joint work.
Continuation of the September 2025 meeting
The latest meeting in Damascus followed talks held by Türko and Türkiye's Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, in September 2025. During the previous visit, Turkish officials responsible for vocational and technical education, curricula, information technologies and educational infrastructure also took part and held talks with their Syrian counterparts.
Syria's vocational education plan
Syria continues its efforts to develop vocational education. In a briefing before the People's Assembly this month, Türko said that the sector's current situation was being assessed in cooperation with the European Union and chambers of industry.
The planned measures include improving teachers' professional qualifications, renewing curricula and creating new vocational education fields. The Syrian Ministry of Education has also prepared a draft law on vocational education.
