A truck parking facility opened at the Cilvegözü Customs Gate in Hatay during a ceremony focused on trade activity between Türkiye and Syria. Speaking after the opening, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat said trade between the two countries had increased by 45 percent in 2025.
Bolat said trade between Türkiye and Syria rose by 16 percent in the first seven months of the year. He made the remarks after the opening of the truck park and a visit to the Cilvegözü Customs Gate.
Syria's role in regional trade links
Bolat said relations between Türkiye and Syria were developing rapidly, adding that progress in their commercial and economic ties would contribute to the prosperity of the peoples of both countries.
Bolat said Syria was an important route for Türkiye to the Gulf region and North Africa, while Türkiye held a significant position for Syria as a gateway to the West, Europe and the Caucasus.
Bolat announced that six border gates were operating between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of transportation, trade, transit trade and energy corridors linking Türkiye, Syria, the Middle East and the Gulf region.
Truck park opened jointly by Türkiye and Syria
Qutayba Ahmed Badawi, head of Syria's General Administration of Border Crossings and Customs, said he was pleased that the truck park had been opened jointly. Badawi said trade between Türkiye and Syria had increased recently.
Badawi said the rise in trade volume required the expansion of work areas on both the Turkish and Syrian sides, adding that Türkiye and Syria were two brotherly countries in every field.
Badawi announced that they would make every possible effort to increase the number of trucks and develop relations between the two countries.
After the remarks concluded, Ömer Bolat, Qutayba Ahmed Badawi and the accompanying officials conducted an inspection tour of the buffer zone.
