Field operations continue against Yemen’s mine threat
Masam Project teams are continuing their efforts to reduce the risks posed by mines and remnants of war to residential areas and local communities in Yemen. The Saudi-backed teams cleared 5,164 mines, unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive devices between September 1 and 25, 2026.
The cleared ordnance included 4,452 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 631 anti-tank mines, 60 anti-personnel mines and 21 improvised explosive devices.
During the same period, the teams also cleared 809,086 square meters of land contaminated by mines and remnants of war. No locations were provided for the areas where the operations were conducted.
Fighting intensifies again in some provinces
In September, clashes between government forces and the Houthis intensified again in several areas of Yemen, including the provinces of Taiz, Lahij, Marib, Al Jawf and Al Bayda.
This military escalation formed part of a process that began in early July 2026 and was considered the most extensive tension since the relatively calm period that began after the April 2022 ceasefire.
The war in Yemen has continued since the Houthis seized control of the capital, Sanaa, and some provinces in September 2014. The Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 to support Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
