The Israeli army launched a large-scale military operation in the Qalandiya refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem. The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported that Israeli soldiers beat and wounded eight Palestinians during the operation.
In a statement, the Red Crescent said medical teams treated eight assault cases and the wounded were taken to hospital. The statement added that five patients were evacuated from the camp and that Israeli forces 'clearly obstructed' efforts to reach the wounded and sick.
The Jerusalem Governorate announced that Israeli forces detained many Palestinians, including a woman, during the camp raid. The governorate said Kifah Hamad (43), a resident of Qalandiya camp who works as an educational counselor at Kubaiba Girls' High School, was detained despite having a broken leg in a cast.
The governorate also reported that Israeli soldiers severely beat a young camp resident before releasing him, damaged residents' property, and sent reinforcements to the camp. The operation caused traffic congestion at the Qalandiya checkpoint.
Yoram Halevi, the Israeli army's coordinator of activities in the Palestinian territories, confirmed on Facebook that the army had launched a large-scale operation in Qalandiya camp. Halevi claimed the operation targeted 'militants, hostile infrastructure, and weapons possession and trade.'
In a call to camp residents, Halevi argued that movement restrictions and the impact on daily life were 'a direct result of terrorist activities' and urged Palestinians to follow the instructions of security forces during the operation.
Israeli forces carry out daily raids across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Since the genocidal war began in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, attacks by the army and settlers in the West Bank have escalated. So far, more than 1,182 Palestinians have been killed, around 13,000 wounded, and nearly 24,000 detained in these attacks.
