Hamza Muhammad, who was detained during an operation near Manbij, Syria, was described as having held a senior military role within ISIS.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry said Muhammad used the code name "Abu Jihad al-Muhajir." The ministry said Muhammad served as the chief military official in ISIS’s so-called Damascus network and had previously been a deputy to the group’s former chief military official.
The ministry also said that Muhammad had been responsible for ISIS’s so-called Idlib network during a certain period.
