Remarks by Israeli model Saray Givati that children could grow up to become terrorists drew a reaction from Francesca Albanese, the United Nations rapporteur responsible for the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Speaking to a Hebrew-language television channel, Givati was asked whether she should feel sorry for every crying child in the world. She replied that she was sorry, but believed that if no action was taken, the child would grow up to become a terrorist.
Albanese reposted part of Givati’s remarks on the X platform on Saturday. Comparing Israel’s killing of thousands of children in Gaza with the methods used by the Nazis during the Holocaust, Albanese wrote:
“Children will grow up. Nazi officials used the same argument during the Nuremberg trials to justify killing children.”
Sanctions and criticism targeting Albanese
Albanese has issued statements expressing solidarity with Palestinians and criticizing Israel’s actions throughout the war in Gaza. She has faced pressure and criticism over her reports and stance.
The United States imposed sanctions on Albanese in July 2025. Washington said it based the decision on Albanese’s encouragement of the International Criminal Court to take action against officials, companies and executives who are citizens of the United States and Israel.
The United States had previously asked UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to remove Albanese from her post and accused her of antisemitism.
Figures on deaths in Gaza
In a statement issued on August 24, the Gaza government media office said that the Israeli army had killed more than 21,500 children since the war began in October 2023.
The statement said that the number of children who had died between October 8, 2023, and August 24 had exceeded 21,500. The Gaza government media office argued that the figures showed the severe consequences of systematic attacks.
The Gaza government media office said that more than 73,000 Palestinians had been killed and more than 174,000 wounded in the war that began on October 8, 2023. It said that most of those killed and wounded were children and women.
It was also noted that Israel continued its attacks on Gaza despite the ceasefire agreement announced on October 10, 2025, with more than 1,390 Palestinians killed and approximately 4,801 wounded during this period.
