An armed attack on a checkpoint at the entrance to Jaramana, in the southern countryside of Damascus, killed the attacker and wounded three security personnel.
According to a report by Syria's state news agency SANA, citing an unnamed security source, security forces stopped two suspects on a motorcycle for an identity check. One suspect drew a pistol and fired into the air, then threw two hand grenades at the security forces at the checkpoint. The explosions wounded three security personnel.
The attacker was trying to throw a third grenade when it detonated in his hand, killing him at the scene. According to the same source, the attacker's identity was established and he was found to be wanted for murder and drug trafficking. The other suspect with him was taken into custody. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Drug raid in Daraa
Meanwhile, counter-narcotics teams conducted a major operation in the town of Nusayb in the southern Syrian province of Daraa. Syria's official television Al-Ikhbariya reported that a suspect identified as 'N. F.' was located and taken into custody in a raid.
The operation netted 15,960 Captagon pills, 5,560 drug-laced pills, medium-calibre weapons and ammunition. The suspect was referred to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
These operations are being carried out as part of efforts by Syrian authorities to maintain security and combat criminal networks following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024.
