The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s government said the Houthis were involved in a drone attack on the Taibah power distribution station in Medina, a civilian facility that supplies electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque, spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said.

The attack at 5:11 a.m. on Tuesday knocked one transformer out of service but did not affect the wider grid. An operational review and examination of the drone’s wreckage established Houthi involvement, Maliki said, adding that the coalition would keep taking measures to deter the group and protect the Two Holy Mosques. A drone attack attempt on Mecca was intercepted last month.
Türkiye strongly condemned the Houthi attack on civilian infrastructure serving the Prophet’s Mosque. The Turkish Foreign Ministry called the attack unacceptable, urged an immediate and unconditional end to such attacks, said they threaten Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and security and target Islam’s sacred values, and reiterated its strong support for the kingdom.
Condemnations poured in from the Arab and Islamic world. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation called the attack a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of the sanctity of holy sites and international law. GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said it “crossed red lines,” stressing that the security of Saudi Arabia and its holy sites is inseparable from Gulf security, while Yemen’s Foreign Ministry blamed the Houthis and their backer Iran.
