The death toll from Monday's collapse of an open-pit gold mine in Colombia's southwestern Nariño department has risen to 14, while seven people were injured, four of them seriously. The collapse occurred at a mine along the Iscuandé River in the Pacific coast municipality of Santa Bárbara de Iscuandé.
Nariño's secretary for peace and human rights, Alex González, said the workers were under the section of the mine that gave way. Thirteen bodies were recovered in Santa Bárbara de Iscuandé and one in neighboring Guapi in Cauca department.

The Nariño government coordinated with the Colombian army's 3rd Division to airlift the four seriously injured to Tumaco for treatment, and the UN human rights office in Colombia called for support for the injured and the victims' families.
