Egypt has strongly condemned the Israeli attack targeting a patrol belonging to the Lebanese army, which resulted in the deaths of two officers and one soldier.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the developments in a statement. Cairo criticized Israel's attacks on Lebanese territory, emphasizing that this constitutes a clear violation of the country's sovereignty.
The statement also called on the international community to take action. Egypt urged for the cessation of Israel's repeated violations and respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Cairo warned that the military escalation could further destabilize the region amid already increasing security challenges in the Middle East. Egypt also highlighted the importance of supporting regional and international efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading beyond current borders.
The statement reaffirmed support for Lebanon's unity, sovereignty, and state institutions. Egypt rejected any steps targeting Lebanese territory or official institutions.
Cairo reiterated its call for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese lands and demanded the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
This resolution was adopted following the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war. It calls for a cessation of hostilities, respect for the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel, and the protection of Lebanon's sovereignty.
Egypt's statement came at a time when exchanges of fire and military operations continue along the Lebanon-Israel border, and despite ceasefire arrangements, tensions have not eased. The situation in the region has raised concerns about the risk of a new escalation.
