The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, announced that fully implementing the plan to disarm Hamas in Gaza would contribute to establishing lasting peace in the region.
In a statement on the social media platform X, Kallas said she welcomed the agreement reached through the mediation of the US, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey.
Pointing out that many conditions must be met for the plan to be implemented, the EU's top diplomat stated, "The full implementation of the plan to disarm Hamas would be a constructive step on the path to peace."
Underlining that success depends on the full commitment of all parties, Kallas said, "Verifying Hamas's compliance with the agreement terms will pose a serious challenge. Ultimately, Israel will also need to withdraw its troops from Gaza."
Kallas noted that the European Union is ready to support the next steps. She added that EU missions play an important role in supporting the efforts to build a Palestinian state.
