Following Itamar Ben-Gvir’s remarks defending the killing of Palestinians in Gaza, the European Commission reminded Israel of its obligations under international law.
Speaking at the European Commission’s press briefing in Brussels on Tuesday, Commission spokesperson Anitta Hipper said Israel is expected to comply with all its obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law.
Hipper stressed that the protection of civilians in Gaza must be ensured under all circumstances.

Far-right Israeli National Security Minister Ben-Gvir recently called for intensified airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. Ben-Gvir also defended the killing of 30 to 40 Palestinians every day and reiterated his call for Israelis to be resettled in Gaza at the expense of the region’s indigenous population.
The European Commission spokesperson also said that a proposal to place Ben-Gvir on the sanctions list under the global human rights sanctions regime is on the Council’s agenda.
