Iraq announced that a hideout in the Wadi Zgaitun area north of Kirkuk province, where ISIS members were reportedly present, had been destroyed. The operation was conducted as part of intelligence activities aimed at tracking the remnants of the group in Iraq.
According to a statement issued by the Security Media Cell on Monday night, precise information provided by the Directorate of Military Intelligence was used to identify the target.
The statement said that after ISIS members in the hideout were identified, Iraqi F-16 fighter jets carried out two airstrikes on the area. The Security Media Cell announced that the strikes completely destroyed the hideout and killed all those inside.
However, no figure was provided for the number of people killed in the operation.
Operations against ISIS cells continue
Iraq declared victory over ISIS in December 2017 after years of conflict. Nevertheless, the group’s cells have continued to operate in some areas in the north, west and east of the country and have carried out intermittent attacks.
Iraqi forces continue military and security operations against the remaining ISIS elements.
